AUGUST HAKVAAG
The Aporia Artist Collective was founded by long-time collaborators Hannah Postlewait and August Hakvaag. It began with weekly organized readings of classic plays during the pandemic. 85+ readings and some Zoom Theatre later, Aporia is now finding a life in the world of live and sight-specific theatre. Most of all, we are dedicated to creating and adapting new work that centers the artist and prioritizes accessibility for the audience.

Aporia spent most of the pandemic doing readings of classical works, the main purpose of which was to create ways for actors, directors, and other theater professionals to keep up with their craft via cold reading and casting opportunities. During this time we did our first full Zoom production, a workshop version of But Not Uncle Vanya, written by August Hakvaag and directed by Hannah Postlewait. It starred Julianne Kastner, Maggie Brennan, and Michael Stahler.
But Not Uncle Vanya had its world premiere at The Fidget Space in Philadelphia, PA. It would be the first fully staged production from Aporia Artists Collective, and starred Megnot Toggia, Maggie Brennan, and Kevin McCann.
A Seance For Mae West premiered as part of the 2023 Philly Theatre Week at Hot Bed in Philadelphia, PA, where it enjoyed a sold out run. It was generously supported by the Temple University TFMA Alumni Board, as well as the Illuminate The Arts Grant. Written and directed by August Hakvaag in collaboration with Aporia, it starred Kayla Cleary, Rebecca Hassler, Hannah Postlewait, and Caitlin Wisneskie.
